BIO-LITHIC™ EDITION / JOURNAL 01

A different
nature.

Surfaces, objects and possibilities
for the spaces we make.

ARCHITECTS &
INTERIOR DESIGNERS

A NOTE FROM THE MATERIAL

Some surfaces
ask you to
look closer.

A pale field. A darker edge. A pattern that changes as you move towards it.

Bio-Lithic brings this kind of detail to an interior. MUSH cultivates mycelium composites from agricultural by-products, creating decorative surfaces and objects with a character of their own.

This journal is a starting point. Find a direction you like. Then let’s look at it in the context of your project.

04

SURFACES / A PLACE TO BEGIN

One surface.
A different
feeling.

Think of the place where the eye comes to rest.

01

A moment of arrival

A decorative feature wall for a reception or entrance concept.

02

A closer encounter

A focal composition for a retail, dining or residential interior.

03

A material in dialogue

A surface to consider alongside timber, textiles, metal and light.

Begin with an interior decorative application. MUSH reviews the selected material and assembly for your intended use.

02 / IN THE DETAIL

The beauty is
in the variation.

MYCELIUM / AGRICULTURAL BY-PRODUCTS

Grown,
not quarried.

Mycelium is the network of fungal filaments used to bind MUSH’s composite material. Agricultural by-products become the starting point for surfaces and forms.

The appeal is in what you can see: an irregular edge, a warm trace, a pattern that does not read as a printed repeat.

Photographs introduce the character. A physical sample helps you assess colour, texture and finish in your own light.

CHOOSING THE CHARACTER

How much
expression?

Start with the mood you want the material to bring.

01

Quiet

A restrained field. Let proportion and light do more of the work.

02

Subtle

A little movement. Detail that becomes apparent as you approach.

03

Expressive

Stronger biological pattern. A surface that holds the eye.

These are visual directions for discussion. Select the exact material, pattern and finish with MUSH using identifiable physical samples.

FINISH / TOUCH / LIGHT

The appearance

Compare colour, depth and surface character with the proposed coating.

The application

Discuss touch, cleaning, handling and the conditions the surface will meet.

A finish can change the visual and tactile character. Confirm suitability and care for the selected configuration before specification.

FORMS / COLLABORATION

A form begins
with an idea.

An object. A component. A detail that belongs to your project.

01 / BRING A DESIGN

Work from your drawings.

Share a defined object or component for a production feasibility review.

02 / DEVELOP TOGETHER

Explore the form with MUSH.

Begin with a reference and an intended use. Agree the material approach and development scope together.

meets light.

A different scale of encounter. The material becomes part of the object’s presence, whether the light is on or off.

04 / IN YOUR PROJECT

Start with something
you can hold.

A screen can suggest a material. A sample lets you make a more informed choice.

Tell MUSH what you want to assess: pattern, colour, coating or a particular application. Ask which samples are available and confirm any sample and delivery costs.

A CLEAR WAY FORWARD

From first idea
to agreed project.

01

Share the intention.

Send the intended use, a reference, approximate scale and timing. MUSH reviews the starting point.

02

Review the material.

Agree the sample or prototype scope, costs and review criteria. Resolve the questions that matter to your project.

03

Confirm the proposal.

Agree design, quantity, price, payment terms, timing and responsibilities before production.

A useful next step.
Then the one after that.
